Reed Ventures

Where we fit in Reed Elsevier

Reed Elsevier Ventures is the venture capital fund of Reed Elsevier and was established in 2000.

Since then it has made successful investments in the US, Europe and Israel and has become recognised as one of the best corporately managed venture funds. Initially seeded with $100m the fund focuses on investments in internet, risk, healthcare and technology companies.

Reed Elsevier Ventures looks to back strong and innovative management teams who have the passion to challenge the status quo. We look to back companies that have the potential to transform the economics or outcomes of a market with a new approach, business model or technology. We are open-minded and eager to listen to new ideas.

The fund will initially invest between $1m and $10m, depending on the stage of the investment. We will invest in Round A, but not seed stage. Our preferred investment profile is a company that has already raised or is raising a round of capital including top-tier investment funds, has a strong management team, a proven product and a growing revenue stream from customers.

Reed Elsevier Ventures is an ideal investment partner for media, information and technology companies. Reed Elsevier’s trusted brands, customer reach and ever increasing digital delivery provides unparalleled opportunities for emerging best-of-breed companies seeking market acceleration and a strong relationship with a leading global publisher.

Unlike many corporate venture teams, Reed Elsevier Ventures is staffed by venture capital professionals with significant experience of the US and European venture capital industry. Each investment professional takes board seats and works closely with portfolio companies to help them achieve their goals. Although the team is based in London, they travel widely helping companies and looking for new opportunities.
