Doing our part for World Environment Day

We believe in engaging our staff on environmental issues. Each year for World Environment Day we spotlight one of our key impact areas and in 2009 it was reducing carbon emissions from transportation. There was a message to all staff from the CEO highlighting our focus, and new environmental targets. We also formally launched an Environmental Standards programme to help us meet our environmental targets. Last year, over ten locations across all four divisions achieved five of the RE Environmental Standards, which include per person consumption targets. In addition, Elsevier Philadelphia became the first Reed Elsevier location to achieve a US Environmental Protection Agency Energy Star award.

We are committed to advancing our environmental activities, and this year we held a global webinar to engage staff on what Reed Elsevier is doing to meet our commitments. The webinar was recorded and downloadable on the RE Green Room intranet site for staff who were not able to join the meeting.

In 2008 we also engaged with colleagues and partners to make a video to engage our employees on C02 emissions and highlight what we are doing about climate change and the action that they can take to make a difference.
